If you knew me at all, you would know that I'm a huge BlackBerry fan boy. I've been using BlackBerry device since the 4.5 days and have been loving it ever since. However, I've recently got a hold of the new Nexus 5 and have been using it as a main device for the past month or so and I wanted share my experiences with you.
Here are my impressions about Google's latest and the greatest.
- Nexus 5 is beautiful
The version I have, a white 16gb model, is slim and fits nicely in my hand despite having 4.95" display. LG have done a good job in keeping the bezel size to a minimum.
- Battery life is disappointing
Like everyone, I expect to use my phone at least a day before I go looking for a charger. Nexus 5 fails to deliver an "all day battery".
- Display is gorgeous
Nexus 5 have gorgeous 4.95" 1080p full HD display with 445ppi. Watching movie on it is absolutely fantastic. However, that much pixel-lighting means that much less battery life and I prefer a longer battery life over the the extra 150 ppi or so that I can't really tell.
- Back is slippery
While I appreciate the minimalist design of the back of the phone, the material used in the white Nexus 5 is quite slippery. I've noticed the black one uses a different material - rubber of some sort - but the white model is smooth plastic.
- Speaker is not as loud as it should be
When using Google Maps to navigate or watching YouTube video with friends, the speaker really falls short. It's as quite as a speaker on the BlackBerry Z10.
All in all, I am quite impressed with the overall design of the phone and more than happy with how much I've paid for it ($350 + tax + shipping). I'll most likely migrate back to my beloved Q10 sometime soon but wont be stashing the Nexus 5 in my drawer since Diaree is being actively developed on Android OS.
